Before he or she is admitted onto a course of study at a higher education instituion, the applicant must prove his/her knowledge of the German language Certified copies of any certificates of language examinations which have already been obtained should also be enclosed with the application. • GDS – Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom

A “Zentrale Mittelstufenprüfung” certificate (ZMP), a “Deutsch C1” certificate from the Goethe Institut or a completed course of study in German language and literature in the applicant’s home country are not sufficient.
Please send your final secondary school examination certificate and/or evidence of any relevant grades and degrees to (i.e. officially certified copies of the certificates in the German, French or English language; translations must have been done by a translator officially recognised in Germany) to:

Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg
Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University
Friedrichstr. 14
70174 Stuttgart

The certificates will be assessed after submission: Processing complete applications takes approx. 2 to 3 weeks and is free of charge. Should an expert opinion from the “Zentralstelle für ausländisches Bildungswesen” (ZaB) be required, more time will be required to process the application.
The “Zentrale Auslandskoordinationsstelle” cannot provide any help with finding a training company and/or facility. Indeed, part of the dual studies is that the applicants prove their ability to act independently by dealing with the companies’ and facilities’ application processes on their own. Furthermore, it is not possible to apply directly to the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW) as is the case with other universities and universities of applied sciences. (For more information, see the leaflet.) This is why there is no application deadline, unlike for universities and universities of applied sciences.
The term of studies always begins on 01 October. It is not possible to start a programme of studies at any other time.
Should you meet the formal admission requirements,, you will have to conclude a trainee agreement with a training company. You can find lists of companies and study content on these pages next to the relevant programme.
Upon conclusion of the training agreement, please transfer the administration fee of EUR 80.00 to the DHBW Stuttgart. You will be officially accepted onto the programme as soon as the following documents have been submitted:

  • Certificate of the” Zentrale Auslandskoordinationsstelle” with the certificates of education/qualifications stated on this certificate (officially certified copies)
  • The original trainee agreement
  • Proof of payment of the administration fee
  • There is a separate application process for Chinese applicants. Please see the leaflet “Information for Chinese Applicants”.
